It's easy to switch...

You no longer need IT specialists to make the switch to VoIP. It’s become child’s play – plug in a few connectors and follow the instructions on the GUI to guide you through the installation process. Once deregulation started, TELES Communication Systems, one area of the Berlin telecommunications specialists Teles, made a name for themselves as specialists in reducing telephony costs. TELES Communication Systems is now investing its experience in the area of VoIP and its knowledge of ISDN telephony systems in their new products.

The TELES VoIP box, newest kid on the block in the comprehensive VoIP product range, is designed for the markets served by small and medium-sized companies, who usually have PBXs with one or two BRI lines. Connected to the Internet and switched between the PBX and the telco provider, the TELES VoIP box instantly reduces the costs of calls by up to 75%. You do not have to modify your PBX in any way nor do you need to add further lines. The Teles VoIP box can be deployed by any company that has a LAN connection (DSL, corporate LAN) as well as an ISDN line.

Four ISDN BRI Lines
The TELES VoIP Box is able to administer up to four ISDN BRI lines with up to eight voice channels. The ISDN BRI lines, with 2 of them configured to NT (outside line) and 2 to TE (to the PBX), can be switched between the PBX and the line to the telco. The company’s PBX does not even have to be re-configured. Once it has been programmed with data about the cheapest routes, the least cost router integrated into the TELES VoIP box automatically selects the cheapest routes for the calls - VoIP or ISDN - based on the call’s destination. The company remains reachable over ISDN at its original numbers while further numbers can be switched over the VoIP channels by a VoIP telephony provider. The system constantly monitors the quality of the VoIP connection. If it slips below an acceptable level, due to IP network overload for example, the system will automatically switch back to an ISDN connection. This feature is protected for TELES by its IntraStar patent and is only provided by TELES products. Up to three TELES VoIP boxes can be cascaded with larger PBXs. In this case, the box can provide up to 18 VoIP channels over just one Internet connection, in addition to six ISDN voice channels. All of the functions described above remain available in a cascaded system. If the TELES VoIP box is switched to VoIP termination only, it provides up to eight VoIP channels on four ISDN BRI lines to the PBX. This configuration is useful if you need additional PBX ports for other tasks or if you do not want to use ISDN lines belonging to the telco or one of your competitors.

Good voice quality
Compact VoIP codecs offering silence suppression and comfort noise generation achieve excellent voice quality for the VoIP connections and the effective use of the broadband LAN connection. These features prevent the uncomfortable feeling of being in a void during pauses in the conversation. The integrated echo and jitter compensation suppress voice echo caused by the process of packetizing voice data, providing a voice quality that the call parties are accustomed to. Voice data packetized, but not compressed, in accordance with the G.711 standard will create a much larger data stream (80 kbps) than an ISDN connection. G.723 and G.729 reduce the stream to a minimum, allowing up to twelve calls on an ADSL line (with 1MB downstream and 128 kbps upstream, for example). It is no longer the work of the experts to configure, operate and service a TELES VoIP box. You don’t even need a manual. A few Quickstart instructions suffice. The user is reachable over ISDN immediately after the steps described in the diagrams have been taken. The VoIP provider will supply the few parameters needed for the IP configuration. An easy-to-use configuration program guides the user through the steps. He only needs to decide the destination numbers that should be delivered to the VoIP network and the money saving can begin. To configure the TELES VoIP box, the user simply needs a PC connected to the LAN and with a standard Internet browser installed. The call logs show how much money was actually saved. Using the calling number, called number, call time and date, the costs can even be traced to the source terminals. The easy-to-use gate manager provides the administrator with access to the data for all of the Teles VoIP boxes connected to the network, even those located at remote sites.

Developed for small and medium-sized businesses
Tailored, as it is, to suit the needs of small and medium-sized businesses, the TELES VoIP box is currently unique on the market. The much-patented Teles technology makes possible an array of other innovative telecommunication services over IP networks, as well as VoIP telephony. The PBX is completely integrated into the IP world of the H.323 and SIP protocols and VoIP-driven innovation, without having to add any hardware or change the current technology used.

The TELES VoIP box introduces its users gently and securely into the new IP-based world of telecommunications. The future of telecommunications belongs to VoIP. Teles meets the challenges of the VoIP era with longstanding experience in the traditional telco segment.
