TELES: skyDSL Service in the Near / Middle East

The skyDSL service, TELES’ satellite based broadband Internet access service, will be available everywhere in the Near East from first quarter 2005 on. To this end, TELES just signed a rental agreement with IABG (Ottobrunn, Germany) for the transponder capacity needed – being provided by the satellite carrier Turksat on the Turkish premium position at „42° East“. A great deal of the more than 3 millions TV dishes in Turkey is already directed towards this premium position.

Thus, TELES markets its repeatedly awarded broadband Internet access service via satellite for the first time in a non-European region with several growth markets of great Internet openness. For the Lebanon, Syria and Iraq a joint marketing partnership between TELES and the Global Telecommunications & Media Holding is in place, already. A master distributor contract is currently under final negotiations concerning the Turkish market. The establishment of further distribution channels has been started also for the other growth markets, especially Israel, within the foot print of this transponder (with more than 200 millions of people, see www.teles.de).

In this region, the skyDSL service will remain, with all likelihood for several years, the only broad band Internet access service of that enormous performance and suitable for the PC mass market. Consequently, TELES expects about 10.000 permanent skyDSL customers on this transponder by the end of 2006.
